RE: What does Christina's behavior toward her brother reveal about her character?

At times she came across as selfish - not recognizing that he may want a partner as she herself dreamed of with Walton. She often seemed a bit entitled as if he owed her something since they’d been on their own for so long.

As time went on and she became more disabled she became bitter and selfish---she was unable to see beyond her own disappointments.

I think she was selfish and cruel when it came to her brother. It was to his credit that he accepted his lot and continued to take care of Christina.

Christina seemed unable to see beyond her own needs when it came to Al. She was so afraid of being left alone. She used guilt to manipulate Al into giving up any hope of a different life.

I don't think Christina could ever imagine her adult life without her brother Al. She was controlling, even though she was helpless is so many ways. I don't think she was very considerate when it came to her brother finding his own personal happiness...beyond her.

She was good with her brothers except for Al. She let Sam and Fred make their own lives and pursue happiness, It surprised me when she was so selfish when it came to Al. I think its because she needed him but it was still selfish.

She is selfish but her outward expression is one of generosity and understanding. When I read the interactions between Christina and Al, I sensed his guilt that he could leave and have a “normal” life while Christina would be unable to live a similar life. Christina has an invisible hold on him.

She didn’t want to be alone, and knowing she would never escape her life in the house, didn’t want Al to, either. I don’t think she wanted to be selfish and cruel, but probably just couldn’t help it and it got away from her.

I think her cruel and selfish behavior revealed that she was scared & bitter about being alone. Misery loves company & she thought her brother would continue to be her company.

Christina and Al loved each other. She depended on him so deeply, she couldn't let him go when he'd found someone to love. Fear and loneliness made her, at times, cruel. The siblings had a love/hate relationship.

I don't think she meant to be selfish. It is just a fact that her life is what is was and as a matter of self preservation she intruded on her brother's life.

RE: What does Christina's behavior toward her brother reveal about her character?

Christina was afraid to be left alone. Her fear made her abrasive and selfish even cruel in her interaction with her family. She felt separate from the normal relationships people develop due to her illness. Her brother Al was her life line to normalcy. Though I did feel empathy for Al I think he was comfortable with the serenity of his life.

I agree with several of the comments above, that she was selfish and bitter, especially as she grew older.

Christina became more and more dependent on Al as she aged and her disease progressed,to the point of co-dependency, poisoning nearly all her relationships in the process.
