RE: How do the poems of Emily Dickinson engage with the themes of this novel?

Emily Dickinson and Christina's circumstances were similar in that they were both recluses, lived within themselves, intelligent women who found themselves a lone. It made sense that Christina connected to the poems. The poems held a hope for Christina to get out into the world and leave home, but that never materialized.

I agree with Navy Mom but not that the poems held hope for Christina's escape. I think instead, it made Christina feel less alone that another woman could write things that Christina felt. I think she was relieved to find a kindred spirit.

Emily Dickinson was confined to her home for most of her life, she was from New England, and she spoke her feelings through her poetry and writings. Dickinson was actively involved and engaged with her community while remaining physically isolated from it. Christina’s story largely parallels the life of Emily Dickinson.

I agree with all of answers above.
I thought the addition of Emily Dickinson was fabulous.
I have always enjoyed and appreciated her poetry.
