Putnum made Earhart a star. She was also paid better while some of the other women were struggling financially. Earhart also refused to believe that a woman's place is in the home but that "a woman's place is wherever her individual aptitude places her, and that the work of married men and women should be split" "She should test the grind of earning a living and he should learn the stupidity of housework" These are very modern ideas.

Putnam was a smart marketer who polished Amelia’s image. She was also a dedicated pilot who refused to let anything stand in her way.

I do not watch a lot of movies. However, the Night of Museum series is am exception. I think that another reason why Amelia Earhart was the most famous women flyers. Night of Museum 3 was the last picture that Robin Williams played on screen before his death.

She cared about her image and was smart about "branding' it. She was also fortunate to have a series of successes when other female aviators were struggling. She lived in NYC where the media followed her every move. Putnam was a big help when it came to promoting her and helping get her book written and published. She took on the leadership role among the other Fly Girls and they deferred to her. Hard work, leadership and luck made her the icon.

She seemed to be the most talented when it came to promoting flying and also promoting the rights of women. She must have been a good public speaker as well, plus as many have commented, she had a husband who made promoting her his job. She probably had an income from Putnam to fall back on, although I’m not sure if that was mentioned in the book

Earhart was passionate about flying and passionate about equality for women pilots. She was so committed to her cause that she reluctantly married Putnam, a man who could fund her flying and promote her books and speaking engagements. She was a compelling speaker. In short, Earhart had the right combination of characteristics necessary to become the best known female aviator of the time.

Amelia Earhart was one smart woman. She married a man she didn't love because he supported her passion but it was her talent, her stamina and her compassion that drove her to be the best she could be.

I think it was two fold, Putnam made her famous, and I think she was just really good at what she did. I sensed that there was something different about her and people gravitated towards her.
