I didn't have a problem with the graphic nature of the descriptions. I might be a terrible person, but this type of thing doesn't bother me at all, just as long as no animals are harmed!

No - not at all - it was an integral part of the whole story.

Not at all, on the contrary, it made the story so much interesting, it was part of the characters in this Novel.

I enjoyed it for it made the novel feel so authentic. I truly felt like I was there.

I was listening to these parts of the book and it was disturbing to hear it read aloud. I think it became more real than when I am in control of the actual reading myself.

Not at all. I found it fascinating. At least they had carbolic available! Thanks to Clara Barton & Florence Nightingale, war time surgical units had improved survival of soldiers!

No, I always like to learn things about the past and the description of the hospital and battlefield medicine was enlightening to me.

I can see how listening to the audio of the book would be a very different reading experience, however.

I was reviewing the responses and I started thinking about my preferred way of receiving information. It is reading it instead of listening to it. I find that I get more emotional listening to something than reading it. I do this for news items and obviously for books. If I listen to something graphic, such as an audio book, I have to stop it and listen to music or something else for awhile before I go back to it. Is anyone else like this?
