As an entrepreneur, what were Danielle's challenges and keys to success? Do you have entrepreneurial ambitions, or have you ever started a new venture? Do you know where might you find business advice in your community or network?

Danielle has experience from her families business. I'm sure she learned the machinations for the basics of operating a business to some degree. She was gifted in sales/marketing. She didn't quite grasp the finance end. She took on a lot without having much knowledge in the particular area - risky. She was determined and driven a necessary.

Her biggest challenge in the 1940s was being a woman trying to run a business. A lack of money was also a major challenge and, combined with being a woman meant it would have been near impossible for her to succeed. Fortunately, she had the good luck to meet the right people who provided her with money and access to the right people. Unfortunately, this was one of my problems with the book. I think for all the tragedy Danielle experienced, she was too lucky in many of the things happening in her life.

Danielle faced many challenges as an entrepreneur. First she was a woman, second she lacked financial means to get started and third, she was trying to succeed in business during a world war when not only supplies were low, but also everyday people were not as willing to spend on such luxuries. I admired the fact that Danielle knew she was lacking in the knowledge of running a business, but she drew on her strengths of creativity and art. She believed in her products and knew that they were quality goods with passion behind them. On the other hand, it seemed like she went from rags to riches in the matter of months. How quickly and massively success came to her was a little far fetched.

I admired Danielle for her ability to mix perfumes. I believe that the author described very well how she had the ability and training to succeed at that endeavor. However, I agree that it was a leap for her to become so successful in the business world without a business mentor. Her husband, Mas, seemed to handle the business side of things so her only training would have been what her father decided to teach her.

Danielle had a grand amount of determination, good connections and sources for supplies, people in Los Angeles willing to introduce her to the right people, and sheer luck in spades. I agree with the other readers, though, that you had to suspend belief to some degree (throughout the book) but especially when it came to Danielle's seemingly overnight success.

Danielle had a vision out of necessity and was willing to work and sacrifice. Women, during the time period of the book, were thought of as to "not worry your pretty head about such things". I admired her determination, but it did seem to me way to many coincidences occurred. Danielle did make me think of choices to be made and would I make the same decisions.

I agree that she met success quickly. She did have lucky connections with the right people. She was not afraid to ask for help and chances, like breaking the perfume bottle at the store event. I enjoyed the scene where she trained the clerks on selling perfume. She knew what she was talking about.

I think it takes a lot of guts to start a new business. I've never had the courage - I would go nuts without a steady income.

I think that Danielle's talent and knowledge in the perfume business was an excellent choice to start a business. I don't think it was possible for her to get the money and clients as easily as the book makes it out to be. She bounce back from adversity and keep her nose to the grindstone. I think as a entrepreneur you need to have those qualities. Her challenges were being in a new country, having no money and being responsible for two small children and a ill mother. Her perseverance was her greatest strength. I have no entrepreneurial genes in my body.
