Was able to carve a world for herself and family. Possibilities were endless despite the fact she was a woman. Yes her opportunities were stunted but possible as she demonstrated.

Danielle was ultimately able to live the American dream. In fact, being French actually gave her credibility in the worlds of perfume and fashion so, in some ways, her immigration status opened up doors to that American dream that she then capitalized upon with her strong determination and perseverance.

I think she felt like her plight made her apart of the bigger plight of so many other immigrants she knew and met. I think she felt apart of a cause and embraced it - but ultimately made a life of her own.

My Mother came from Norway when she was a young girl. She said they had to come because they had nothing in Norway. She said the last time she saw her Grandmother was when they left the home. Her Grandmother was sitting on the door step smoking a corn cob pipe. This was in the early 1900's,her grandmother had to know she would never see her family again. I cannot imagine how that must feel.

I thought it was strange that she would feel like an American so quickly. I don't think I would ever feel like I wasn't an American, no matter where I lived. Of course, I'm older than she was and she had already lived in France and Poland and spent time in England, whereas I've only lived in the U.S.

America had a whole different way of looking at life than Europeans. She was gutsy and had I think I can mentality like Americans. She could see herself putting down roots here.
