How do you think "home" evolves for Quiara as the memoir progresses?

The concept of "home" appears often: How do you think "home" evolves for Quiara as the memoir progresses? What does “home” mean to you?

Home is where the people and places that matter are located. I think Quiara’s concept of home evolves from being a place where her blood relatives are to a place where she feels comfortable within herself and those she cares about.

Home seemed a source of conflict and often pain for Quiara: conflict as she traversed the different worlds of her father and mother and pain as she tried to understand the high mortality rate of her mother's family. Over time, as she matured, it seems she found an acceptance and came to understand that home was up to her to build taking the best of what she gleaned from her extended family.

The concept of "home" evolved and transformed over the different chapters in Quiara's life. As she matured, so did her idea of home. So many of her life experiences, i.e., positive and negative, impacted her beliefs/views on what home really means.

To me, home is where I can be myself, love and be loved by those in my life.

Qui struggled with what home was, early on, until she matured and discovered that home is where you are loved and accepted. It doesn't matter what the structure looks like, home happens within our hearts and being.

There's the old saying "Home is where your heart is." I think Quinara had to accept her family and culture to fully embrace them. it was then that she truly understood what "home" represented.

Her relationship with her father and his unloving wife, who certainly made her feel like an outcast, was a struggle for her. Her maternal family was home, with all the many relatives. She loved them and often felt guilty over the opportunities that she had and they did not. She was a caring loving person. Home to me is family. Home is living in my 1970’s house where I raised my two sons, many dogs and cats and all the memories.

Home is where you are seen and heard and appreciated for who you are. Shouldn’t have to defend yourself. Unfortunately I believe her dad lost out. Her life ended up far richer due to the strong alliances and culture that was fostered by her Grandmother and extended family. It created a strength in her she might not have otherwise developed
