At the heart of the novel is the desperate quest for home. What does home mean to the characters? How do languages become a kind of home for them? How do you personally define "home?" What does the community of Remembrance impart to its residents?

I think home should be a safe space, a place of warmth and comfort and safety.Home is where the people you love gather. Most of the characters have no such place and that is what Remembrance means to them. Language can allow people to communicate safely if others do not understand what is being said. Language can also be a commonality - when traveling in a foreign country it can be nice to hear someone speaking your language - it can quickly create a connection and a feeling of safety.

Home to many was Remembrance - freedom. A place of peace - much like home is to us today. The freedom to do as we please, the peace and quite of not having to fight, the place where we and our loved ones also feel safe. Being able to communicate is a feeling of safety. We today feel much the same way that the people of Remembrance did.
