Why do you think Louisa was so unpleasant to everyone around her, even after she was helped to return to Remembrance?

I think Louisa had so many scars, both physical and emotional, that it was hard for her to bond with anyone. She put up walls to protect herself from caring and being hurt again.

I think she was unable to forget her physical abuse and in her mind could not trust anyone. She was only comfortable with her herbs and in her garden space where she felt in control and safe.

As discussed by the others, Louisa had experienced so much hurt that she probably did not trust any other emotional experiences thinking she would ultimately be disappointed. "Hurt people hurt people". She didn't realize that she had so much to offer others with her abilities to heal and with simply sharing her experiences.

Some people are so wounded by others that they turn inward. They are afraid to let anyone in for fear of being hurt again. Some will just shrink away- others like Louisa will strike out first to prevent anyone from getting close to her. It is a protection mechanism and if used often will become a habit.
