What role do you think the aged Winter was filling before disappearing from the care facility? Why do you believe she was so fixated on watching the news?

Winter's cold was to connect to Gaelle and bring her powers to fruition. I think she was fixated on the news because she was in touch with what was happening in the world and needed someone new to carry on the work of redemption,

I also think Winter was there to draw Josiah in to discover Gaelle. I wondered about the TV being tuned to the news all the time but thought that maybe she was trying to show Gaelle all the things in the world that needed fixing. Since she was no longer able to use her powers I think it was her way of recruiting the next person.

The only connection I could ascertain was to have some way for Gaelle discover her power. The television, perhaps it was for her to see what was still to be achieved and for Gaelle to be aware of what was happening in the world. that being said it was a tenuous connection at best.

I thought Winter was keeping up the the gloom and doom occurring in the news.

I believe Winter was there to recruit Gaelle. Winter had to make the connection between Josiah and Gaelle. She watched the news non-stop to be able to see what was happening throughout the world and to be able to see if there was any other place that she should be. She was watching for clues as to where anyone with powers might be found. She may also have wanted Gaelle to be aware of what trouble spots were out there in the world.
