"She no longer feels the boundaries of her skin. She is powerful beyond strength. She is beyond." Pavla's final transformation is mysterious and sudden. What do you make of her disappearance? What do you imagine is next for Pavla, or do you think her story has come to an end?

I think that anything is possible, and it is up to the reader to imagine what can happen to Pavla in the future.

I agree with teachiz. Many novels end with the reader not knowing what will happen to the characters. I was at an author reading which had a questional ending and someone asked the author, What next? The author replied that it was up to each reader.

It was one more strange thing concerning this story. She was confined, did not eat, yet became stronger as time went on. I don't think her story has come to an end. I imagine her turning up elsewhere in yet another guise.

Her story has not ended. I think she will end up with Dinelo and Marcus. She has evolved into yet another manifestation.

The story continues in my mind that finally the three characters will meet any live out their lives together. I like a happy ending.

I think Pavla is on her way to another manifestation. What is next? I don't know. I do think her story is one of the adventure of simply being and responding to circumstances in real time.

I think Pavla is a spirit, a sprite. Was she ever real? She was transformed from a dwarf into a normal body, and then transformed many times again. This is a "fairy tale" and anything can happen, Remember Beauty and the Beast? Anyone read the book "The Story of Edgar Sawtell"? Little Nothing reminded me of that one. I don't foresee a sequel because ai think the author has made her point, has made us think, feel and love the characters and wants us with the story she has given us,.

I do not know where she is or what she became but I am quite sure she will connect with Danilo and Markus again. But I agree that there is probably no sequel and we just have to accept this as another of the "fairy tales" that don't necessarily have a happy ending as many others do not.

Her disappearance is just another transition in her life. I don't think it's the end for her, she will come back in a different form.

I think it ended that way so that we would know that she goes on - she will transform into whatever is needed at the time. She was able to free herself (her spirit) and it will go on.

I think that the point of this is for us to begin o ur own story of Pavla...to stretch our imaginations to have her appear or live in many different forms and times.

RE: What do you make of Pavla's disappearance? What do you imagine is next for her, or do you think her story has come to an end?

I think this is where the author shows us, her story isn't to be taken as a conventional story. It's a fairy tale turned into an allegory for the human spirit. At this point, Pavla is simply spirit. She vanishes from our everyday vision. It's not a matter for wondering what happened in the "happily ever after." It's the great mystery of the life of the spirit after death, perhaps. How we answer that isn't part of this story. But what an amazing way for Marisa Silver to point us to that question!

Huh, I guess I thought this was the end and she transcended into another place and time. After reading the other responses, though, I wonder if it is the end.

I think Pavla's disappearance is lazy writing. I liked the book up until that point. I was not happy when she just disappeared into thin air. I very much disliked the way this book ended. It felt lazy & too easy.

I think she may change into something else. I wonder if there might be a sequel.
