Do you think Savitha's views on life and death make her more resilient and able to face adversity?

Discuss Savitha's thoughts on bananas: "Yogurt rice with a banana was like life, simple, straightforward, with a beginning and an end, while the other—the banana split—was like death, complex, infused with a kind of mystery that was beyond Savitha's comprehension, and every bite, like every death, dumbfounding." Do you think her views on life and death make her more resilient and able to face adversity?

Savitha's life lessons made her views practical. She was nothing more than a commodity as proven over and over from the time she was taken by her employer, until she was raped by drunk men. She was never viewed as a person and she knew she never would be.

Quite frankly, I think it's the other way around. Life is very complex and death itself is simple. With that said, Savitha's view of life and death helped her through the difficult times she faced.

Based on her experiences, Savitha's life was simple and straightforward. Everyday, you endure by doing what is right in front of you. She doesn't get mixed up in the right or wrong or the what ifs of what is happening to her. She wakes up. Does what she needs to do to survive that day . Goes to bed. This keeps her very focused and in the present.

I'm not sure what, if any, religion Savitha practiced. Perhaps Hinduism. There are many more unknowns after death. While the body dies, the soul does not. It would be a challenge to stay "in the moment" during her current life, without having to think about living this life all over again. Or even living a "new and improved" life that she knows nothing about. Or God forbid, what if it is worse!?

I agree with what renem states. Savitha tough times just keep giving her the motivations to get out.

Savitha's love of bananas was simple and joyful. I thought Savitha had a good relationship with her father and I wondered what role that played in her resiliency. How many horrible things happen and you keep getting up? It seemed that Savitha had the internal strength to face adversity head-on.

I don't think Savitha gave much thought to life and death. As much as I hate to say it, I think, Savitha lived life much the same as someone diagnosed with cancer. You can't change it, this is the way it is. So you get up each morning and place one foot in front of the other and you do whatever it is you have to do in order to survive another day. And you try not to think of death.

Savitha’s view of death is very much the view of a younger person. She does not let it control her actions because it is not real to her. The simplicity of her view on death allowed her to soldier through to better times. Along the way she did have small pleasures, like eating bananas and yogurt which made life bearable.
