Is there a particular work of art or artist that you particularly drawn to?

The Countess and Maude discuss a still life by Cezanne, and the Countess says that "if this place was on fire and the people were safe, this funny little painting is what I'd come back for." Is there a particular work of art or artist that you particularly drawn to?

Funny, my favorite artwork is also a Cezanne - Le pont des Trois-Sautets. It's a small Impressionist watercolor of a bridge that I absolutely fell in love with, and I used to go to the Cincinnati Museum of Art just to sit & look at it for a while. I bought a print but it just wasn't the same, it didn't have the same life to it.

Utrillo was an artist mentioned in the story and I do like the paintings I've seen by that particular artist.

No, and I have always found it difficult to understand why one artist is worth so much more than another. Art is truly in the eyes of the beholder!

I'm woefully ignorant about art so I can't say that I value one more than another, although I tend to appreciate a strong use of color. One of my retirement goals is to take an art appreciation course to learn a little about it. I agree with debrais that I don't understand what makes one artist more valuable than another. Buy what you like, not what some "critic" says is good.

When I was in Paris and visiting all the museums I knew that the Impressionists were the group I loved the most--even before that trip. Monet has always been a real favorite but without realizing it, until I started to gather postcards and posters of various artists, I'd become a true lover of Renoir. Though there are many artists that appeal to me, these two are still my favorites.

I love the Impressionists, not just the French but also American Impressionists. I love Turner and so many other great landscape painters...the Fauvists, Klee, Chagall... It's taken me a long time to appreciate Picasso, and even then, it's purely an intellectual appreciation, i.e. the message conveyed by "Guernica" rather than wanting to look at it for long... So I wasn't surprised that Maud and Tanya weren't too impressed, even if intrigued.

The catalog descriptions of Maud's paintings made me want to see them!

I'd forgotten the descriptions of Maud's paintings--probably the best part of the book!

I like a painting I have at home. Its not famous but it shows a house with a long road leading up to the house. It makes me feel like I could walk up the path and go live in this small house in the woods.

I am a devotee of the Impressionists in general and Monet particularly. The one time I visited France the trip to Giverney to see his home and the Blue Bridge sticks in my memory a bit stronger than even my visit to the Louvre.

I do not understand the world of paintings. My particular work of art that I am drawn to are the ones drawn by myself or drawn by my children:). Though, I did like reading about the paintings and I have taken painting classes to paint pictures from famous artists. I then research the artist.

I like the Impressionists best. Their paintings draw me in and I love the use of color and the fact they painted outdoors

I like the works of Georgia O'Keeffe. In fact, I'm looking forward to reading GEORGIA: A NOVEL OF GEORGIA O'KEEFFE by Dawn Tripp.

I love Georgia O'Keefe. I'd love to fill my house with her flowers
