Discuss the conclusion of the book. Who was ultimately responsible for the death of the animals at Glendale and what becomes of them? Why do Two, Clive, and Crawford make the choice to hide the evidence of murder at Glendale? Were you surprised by their choice? Why or why not? Who or what do they feel that they are protecting by doing this?

Jack Older electrocuted the animals who then are buried on the property. The hippo was buried in the place where
the diving pool had been. The decision to hid the body was made because being killed by a ghost was hard to explain and an unsolved murder certainly wouldn’t have helped the park in any way-as May said. It wasn’t a surprising decision once you believed a ghost was responsible. Two, Clive and Crawford were protecting the park, the animals, their livelihoods, and themselves.

Jack Older was responsible for the death of the hippo and Tom Noddy in retaliation for having been fired from Glendale. While he professed to know a great deal about animals, clearly he cared little for them and was willing to cause them to suffer greatly and die so he could avenge his firing.

Jack was responsible for killing the animals as part of his revenge for being fired. Jack was truly as perverse and ignoble character. His death and subsequent burial in an Indian grave mound - after having been eaten by turtles - was such a wonderful ending! While Clive, Two and Crawford did this to prevent an investigation into Jack's death, it was done also to protect the zoo itself. I loved this ending - it was so clever!

Jack Older is responsible for the death of the animals and they are buried on the property. No, I was not surprised by their decision. How would they explain a ghost committed murder? Two was already briefly a suspect and the next person blamed may have been Crawford. The park, animals and employees would suffer if word spread there was a murder in the park and they are protecting all their jobs by covering it up.

Jack Older electrocutes Dinah and Tom Noddy. Little Elk kills Jack, who is ultimately buried in an old grave in one of the animal enclosures. Noone contacts the police about Jack's death because they don't want bad publicity for the park and are afraid Two Feathers will be a suspect for the murder because Jack was scalped and Two Feathers is the only other Indian around the area.

Jack was responsible for the death of the animals, in his well planned out action, he knew exactly what he was doing. I was saddened by the fact that he was buried in ancient Indian burial ground because this land was sacred to the tribes. I believe Clive, Two and Crawford made the only decision they could. Would the authorities believe that Jack was killed by a spirit. Once the knew he was scalped, Two would be their #1 suspect. With this decision, the park was saved and each one would still have their lives and jobs.

Jack Elder absolutely is responsible. I’m not going to hang this on the zookeepers or owner. They tried to do their best by the animals. Sadly, today if it weren’t for zoos many species would be extinct.

I agree with everyone above. They couldn't go to the police with the murder. Two Feathers would have been accused, and the park would have received terrible press. No one would have ever accepted that a "spirit" killed a man!
