Will this be a Bestseller?

What makes a book a BEST SELLER? Do you think this book will be one? How about this story made into a movie?

Do you think it has promise for either of these?

Who would you envision in the film?

No, there not enough readers who understand that period of history and therefore are not interested.

It might be a bestseller since this is a period of history that we are constantly trying to understand but I don't think it has as much promise for a movie

I don't think thisw book will be a bestseller because it doesn't have vampires, lots of sex or any of the other elements that seem to make bestsellers today. It has a more limited appeal because of the subject matter. That being said, I think it would be a terrific movie. I love a good story and this is it. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I don't think this will be a best seller even though it is an enjoyable read. Maybe because I read so many books in this genre it was a bit predictable. I think for a first novel it was good and future works hopefully will be even better.

Maybe if book clubs pick it up for discussion. It is a good one for book clubs; lots to discuss.

I don't see that this will be a bestseller, although I think it is a good read. I am not sure the movie-going public is ready for another Holocaust movie; maybe a Hallmark Hall of Fame selection for tv?

How can anyone be sure if a book will catch on? I would buy it. I will recommend it. I would LOVE to see it in a movie! All the complexities of this book concentrated for viewing has the potential to be fascinating. The subject and characters are certainly rich enough but filming all this would be costly and difficult. However, I have no doubt it can be done.

That would depend on who the audience will be. If you are of the generation that has read many books and seen many movies of this genre, the answer would be no, I think. I could see this being a book to be read in a juniorhigh school class, possibly even upper elementary grades. There are many topics within this novel for good discussions.

I don't think that it will be a bestseller but I think that it will be a well read and very discussed book. I think that it would be a great book for bookclubs. I bought this book and do not regret it and I think that many others will buy it but I don't think it will be a bestseller.

I think the book will be favored by library circles and book clubs. My own book club has ladies from 25-85 and we love to hear the stories from our elders. They have great insight due to different people that they have met throughout their lives.

There are a number of other books on this topic, much better than this one, that deserved bestseller status - Herman Wouk's The Winds of War/War and Remembrance, several books by Leon Uris (QB VII, Mila 18), Schindler's List, to name a few. By comparison this one is just OK. Even the more recent books the author lists in her afterward - Those Who Save Us, Sarah's Key, Skeletons at the Feast are the ones I've read - are better. I believe this author has lots of potential, but she is not quite yet ready for bestseller status.

No, I think there are too many books about the Holocaust. I thought the love story was a little weak. They seemed to fall in love without really knowing each other.

RE: Will this be a Bestseller?

I don't know, for a first book it would be great for her but a stretch. Before this book, I read the book The Baker's Daughter, same subject plus other things involved. I am currently reading The Invisible Bridge, which just came out in paperback and that is on the same type of subject and I have 3 others to read, on WWII but they are all from different regions. My reason for reading these is my father was a medic on the front lines during WWII and he talks about different things and had to drive and Dr in his company to one of the concentration camps to look for his family. He was from Poland but was a soldier from the US. This type of book on WWII and the holocaust is not only in Germany but there are other parts people forget about such as Russia and Lenin and other countries where this played out. There is so much out there on the subject maybe it could be picked up by Lifetime or Hallmark etc for a movie but a major motion picture, no.
