When she returns to her mother in disgrace, does Ijeoma feel guilty about what has happened?

I do think she feels guilty. She is made to feel this way by the treatment of the school teacher and by her mother. The bible teaching each day certainly does not help to make her feel good about herself. She is told she is a abomination.

First I do not think she returned in disgrace -rather she returned in resignation. I don't believe she felt guilty only somewhat relieved to be free of a marriage that she was never happy in.

I think the first time she returns home - from the schoolteacher's house - she does feel guilty, not because of her feelings for the other girl, but because she has made her mother unhappy. It's not the act that she feels guilty about, so much as the consequences, and I appreciate that because it is natural for her to love women.

The second time she returns home, after leaving her husband, I don't think she feels guilty at all. I felt that by staying she was endangering her daughter and that the daughter has a much happier life because Ijeoma is brave enough to leave the marriage. I found it to be a very powerful story.

As KateB stated the return to Mama as a young girl probably left her feeling guilty not for her actions so much as for upsetting and disappointing her mother. The return at the end of the marriage did I am sure have her feeling a bit guilty for failing in the marriage but certainly not as regards the welfare of her daughter nor her own mental state.

I don't think she did. I don't think she thought she had done anything wrong. She was told what she had done was bad, but I don't think she ever truly felt disgraced. She wanted to please her mother though. When she left her husband she was concerned that her mother would be disappointed, but she knew she was doing the right thing for herself and her daughter.
