Is there another book in Penn's future?

After receiving the coin and the letter from Snake Knox's son Pen seems to feel a certain relief. What do you think Pen will do? Is there another book in his future?

Penn will ultimately put to paper the story of his father and the history of the Double Eagles. It is my feeling that we will see another Penn novel in the future.

RE: Is there another novel in Penn's future

It's really difficult to answer a question like this - only Greg Iles can know for certain - but I'd hazard a guess that yes, there will be another book in Penn's future. I probably will not agree with most who answer this, however, for it is my hope that if there is another book, it will deal with a topic, a case, a situation quite other than the one covered in these three books. I think this case has been sufficiently dealt with - perhaps even too much attention has been given. So while I might enjoy - after some time passes - hearing from or hearing of Penn again, I hope he will not address the case of his father but instead find a new path to trod.

I think Penn will finish Henry's work.

Absolutely!! I think he loves this series as much as his audience. He will never drop this idea. There are some great threads that he can easily pick up, and I think he has probably already started!

I hope so. I don't feel like Penn's story has ended.

I hope not. I think a trilogy should appropriately end with the 3rd book. While I enjoyed reading the three, I’m ready for a new subject matter.

I really like Penn as a character, but I agree that I feel like the story line can be finished. I'd be happy for him to find something else to get himself into trouble with, however.

I think that there is little doubt that Penn has more to say. But I'm done.

I think Iles already has a plan for his next book. If it includes Penn all the better, if not I welcome a new story line.

I’m assuming you mean will Penn write another book as opposed to Iles writing another book. Yes, I think Penn will write more books and agree with someone above who thinks he shoul tell Henry’s story. And yes, I hope Iles has fully recovered from his accident and continues to write, though not another Penn Cage story. I’m done, too! Though I would be open to reading more of Iles’s work.

Yes, I think so since Iles left some story lines that could be developed quite easily. But right now I think that Penn needs to rest, collect his thoughts, commune with family members and work at finding himself to get ready for his next adventure and path.

Penn will continue. I don't think Iles could live with his dangling characters and scenes and his questioning readers.

Was there ever a time that Penn sat down to write? And what genre was he supposed to be writing. He didn't do much mayoring either. Only one instance when there was a meeting regarding the town's school did he seem to be involved.

I certainly hope so - like Terriej I don't think Penn's story has ended.

I think there is. There were a couple of things that seemed unanswered. I'm afraid Snake did not die like everyone seems to think.

Although only the author will know this for certain, I believe it is likely that there will be another book, whether or not it continues the Natchez Burning trilogy. There is certainly the opening to continue the trilogy since there was no firm conclusion to Snake Knox's fate. Penn states to Lincoln that Snake couldn't have survived being hit by the IH pick-up, but nothing further is said about a funeral, coroner findings, etc.

I hope so and of course I would be one of the first to read it. There are a lot of unanswered questions still running around in my thoughts.

After Penn received the letter from Billy Knox in which he hints at more and more detailed intel about his Uncle Frank and the JFK assassination it felt as though it was something Penn might pursue in his next book. I think it would be an interesting spin off from this trilogy.

RE: Is there another book in Pen's future?

Whatever Iles' writes next I will be reading it. I had never heard of him when a friend gave me a copy of Natches Burning and I became addicted to the series. I think there is still much for Penn to do and I would love to see him finish Henry's work, tell us his father's life story, and maybe lookup Billy Knox. In the meantime I am backtracking to Penn's life in Houston as a lawyer.

RE: Is there another book in Pen's future?

I hope there is another book in Iles’ future whether it involves Penn or a new protagonist. If the book does involve Penn, I’d like to see he and his family healing. Annie has endured too much loss in her young life.
