RE: How did you feel after reading Eva's final chapter?

The ending was fitting, but I still felt a little sad. As I finished the book, my husband looked at me and asked if it ended the way I thought it would. I told him that it did not, that it was the right ending but that I kind of felt like I received a punch in the gut.

Eva's final chapter was not what I anticipated. I hated it, really. Then I realized it was a way to allow Claire to go on and live her life without constantly feeling guilty. I was aware that Julie Clark had used time in an unusual way which should have led me to know that Eva didn't survive. Claire's story progresses from the present into the future. Eva's story progresses from the past to the present, but no future. An unusual way to tell their two stories but definitely a hint to the ending.

While I did like the ending a lot, it made me sad that Eva didn't miss that flight after all. I liked her more than I liked Claire, and I wanted her to find some sort of happiness in the end.

I was glad to have closure and hated to see it end the way it did but I can't really think of any other way that it could have ended.

The ending was a surprise because Claire had led the reader to believe that she saw Eva ,wearing her pink sweater, on television in New York City. It also made me sad because I wanted Eva to have a chance at the life she so desired.

I kept thinking of the pink sweater siting as well and didn't want to believe she was on the plane!

I was disappointed because I thought Eva was on the brink of finding herself and getting her life straightened out. But in another sense, it was a fitting end. We are all given different paths to take in life. When she made the decision to make drugs in college, that was the beginning of her walk down the wrong path to a bad end.

I was saddened by the ending and surprised. As others mentioned, I liked Eva and was hoping that she missed the flight!

I was shocked by the ending. I would have written it a little differently. I would have left it up to the reader to determine in their minds if she survived.

not the ending I wanted, but I think it is true to the book. It didn't cop out at the end.

I felt somewhat surprised and sad at the ending. I was hoping the early reference about seeng Eva in the pink sweater and the inference to Eva feeling she could walk right out of the jetway without being noticed held true at the end, so seeing what actually happened was a shock to me.

I was sad at the ending, because I wanted to believe for the longest time, like Claire did, that Eva somehow had not gotten on the plane. I felt somewhat the way Danielle described Liz, to the effect :"My Mom can't believe Eva is really gone."

I too was surprised at the ending, wishing that Eva had lived. I did, however, feel that this ending gave Claire more of a reason to survive for herself and for Eva.

i was surprised and initially unhappy that she didn't get a chance at a new life. In many ways she was the more interesting character and the one who had more cards stacked against her. On the other hand she had manipulated Clare into the switch and led her to ta dangerous situation.
In retrospect i felt that Julia Clarke had given the reader a big clue by not bringing Eva's story into the future as she did with Clare. Very clever.

A sad and tragic ending to a story that was filled with hope for a better life for two women in crisis.
This was not a happy ending!

It was a surprising twist, and provided a thought-provoking ending. I appreciate the author's skill in keeping readers wondering until the very end. For every victim who is able to escape her circumstances and start over, how many more never get that chance? Eva's story creates great sympathy throughout the book, making her loss all the more moving at the end.

It really made me sad. I figured there would be a twist but I was hoping it would involve Claire and Eva somehow reconnecting.

It disturbed me...I wish she should have been given a second chance. Life hadn't/wasn't kind to her.
