What is your favorite museum and why?

After visiting the glass museum, Pival asks Rebecca, "Are there many places... where things can be studied like this. Things like glass, or the sea?"

Rebecca replies, "Oh yeah. Tons. My dad always said growing up he learned more in museums and libraries than anywhere else."

What is your favorite museum and why?

RE: What is your favorite museum and why?

I am a museum lover. Probably for me the National Museum of Natural History and the Musee D'Orsay would be my favorites. I love the exploration of animal life and the life of early humans in the National Museum of Natural History. My love of the French Impressionists leads me to prefer the Musee D'Orsay.
I also am partial to the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Cluny Musuem of Medieval Art in Paris.

The Toledo Museum of Art. 1. It's the museum I grew up with. 2. It's free. 3. The marvelous glass collection. 4. A piece of art that I saw the last time I was there. A polymer display of a man in a 1970s trench coat with his briefcase sitting next to him. It looks so real.

I would have to agree with Lois, the Museum of Natural History is a favorite. I could stand forever studying each exhibit. Museum of Modern Art is way up there too. I don't think I will ever forget the feelings I had as I walked through the Holocaust Museum (Washington DC) carrying a photo of one of the victims. Each visitor to the museum was given a photo, with the name, age and a bit of their story to carry with you as you walked through the different exhibits. I still have the photo in my prayer book. The museum is really a must for anyone visiting Washington.

My very favorite museum is The Anthropological Museum in Mexico City. It is amazing collection of the history of Mexico and a true testament to the creativity, talent, and vision of the indigenous people of the land. It is a wonderful reminder to me to never underestimate or discount the value of another just because he/she may look different, speak differently, or worship differently than me.

I am also a big fan of the Museum of Natural History and the Field Museum. What makes them special to me is that I shared them with my son and was able to experience both through his eyes.

While, technically, not a museum, I would include the city of Philadelphia on my list. I love to be able to see what life was like in different times throughout history, and I appreciate the efforts to preserve so many buildings/places where America was born.

I also love the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. I did not appreciate the landscape of the southwest when I moved here. This museum opened my eyes to the beauty of the desert. I no longer think of of it only as being brown!

I love the Holocaust Museum in DC. So informative and really connects you to the Holocaust, how it happened, emotions, etc. Not the most uplifting place, but very important and very well done.

While I could choose from many museums, I would choose Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, OK as a favorite because it is accessible. It features early American art and a great deal of Native American art and artifacts. Since I live in the area, I can visit often. Choosing one museum is like choosing one favorite book---difficult. I also live fairly close to Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, AR, so that could be another choice because of the art collection as well as the lovely grounds.

I have been to the Holocaust Museum twice. It is so quiet with so much sadness and reverence. There is not enough said about that tragic event.

I’m not sure it is a museum but I really enjoyed the LBJ exhibit in Austin Texas. I’m not particularly a fan of LBJ but loved how it presented America from the 20’s onward. It showed the accomplishments and set backs and did an excellent job of showing how things changed for women during this time. There are many great museums in the world, but this was so specific I found it interesting.

A number of people have commented on the Holocaust Museum and I echo their statements. It had such a huge impact on me. My husband and I have visited it numerous times.
The Royal BC Museum in Victoria British Columbia is beautiful.
Also, living in Kansas I frequently visit the Nelson Atkins Gallery. It is beautiful and has a very impressive art collection

I love old “style” museums. The kind that have the dioramas. They don’t have the new technology and they depend on fact leaden plaques. I don’t know why I like these but they seem to be a labor of love. I guess I am taken by the love that is put into displaying something and the stubbornness of museums that refuse to update to modern styles.

The Art Institute in Chicago. I go there every time I visit Chicago. It has so much to offer and every time I see "Sunday Afternoon in the Park" by Seurat, I'm blown away by its size and beauty.

The Rubin Museum of Art in New York City, because it is small-scale enough to not be overwhelming, and because I have learned so much about about the diverse cultures, arts, customs and general information about the Himalayas, India, and neighboring regions just from visiting the exhibits.
