Liz tells Eva, "What I've learned in life is that in order for true forgiveness to occur, something has to die first. Your expectations, or your circumstances. Maybe your heart. And that can be painful. But it's also incredibly liberating." Do you think this is a true statement?

I believe true forgiveness requires an extremely strong resolve. It’s a great idea, but depending on the subject for which one is attempting to forgive, it may be impossible to truly forgive. Easier to put the feelings into a safe place and lock the door. I tend to believe, true forgiveness is wishful thinking or a charade.

I think you have to be able to forget the hurt to really forgive. You will always remember the event but it doesn't need to follow you around like a black cloud. I wish I was better at it.

You can tell someone you forgive but you don't ever forget and remembering often makes the hurt feelings remain. I don't know if you can every truly forgive but agree with Bluebook that you can lock the feelings in a safe place.

I agree with Bluebook. You can try to understand in order to forgive, but forgetting (or erasing a memory) is never really an option, since it is a forced action that never works. A person has to learn how to move on.

I think, forgiveness and forgetting are two sides of the same coin. Unless you forget the hurt, it is difficult to forgive and to forgive someone for hurting you, one has to truly forget ... I think, it is very hard.
