Lately so many of these books about women have narrators who are so flawed or so unreliable that you have a very heard time rooting for them or caring about what happens to them. Eva was strong and made things happen in her life. She took lemons and made lemonade. Claire had to learn how to survive. I enjoyed watching her come to grips with her new reality. I found myself really being drawn into this book and caring about the outcome.

Surprisingly perhaps, the books that came to mind for me were ones that concerned switching of roles or identities, such as Patricia Highsmith's "Strangers on a Train," and Colson Whitehead's "Nickel Boys." Neither book is like this one, but there is a similar premise.

The one that came to mind for me was The Gone Girl, where one of the characters is a disappearing wife.
