Edith was a good match for Wilson as she was a level headed person who could offer support to her husband during trying times. She was a good sounding board for him. And she weighed the merits of marriage to him and did not just jump at the opportunity to be a wife of the president. She was a woman of character.

For a woman, who supposedly was hesitant to marry a President, she had no problem assuming the role very handily after his stroke.

Edith was a good match because she was exactly herself. I think he wanted someone unlike his first wife, but who could challenge him mentally. How many women who would have love to be the next Mrs. Wilson had the ability to be brilliant, humble and an anchor? If she truly did want to be Mrs. Wilson, she played a very good game of "catch me if you can."

It didn't sound like she was madly in love with him at first. It definitely seemed like he was more in love with her than vice versa. But it sounded like it ended up being a good match, like she was able to be a companion to him as well as a sounding board. And I think he was lonely after his 1st wife died, and wanted and needed companionship.
