I really felt the ending was over done. The torture, the reliving of each individuals horror. It was the ending of a very sick individual and I really feel most of our soldiers, no matter how much trauma they faced, would not put themselves through this.. most would see it for what it was. They whole scene of fighting for the "heart" and the burning of the body , no matter how symbolic, took away from the serious topic of the book.

The actual ending of the book was very interesting to me. At first I was surprised that it was so open-ended. I guess I wanted a happy ending for everyone involved. But upon reflection I thought it was pretty realistic in that a step was made toward healing - King seemed better and Ben seemed better, and Becca seemed more forgiving and more willing to try to maintain these two relationships - but that the healing couldn't be wrapped up in a nice, neat package. So, although it didn't have a complete resolution, it did end on a note of hope - which I really liked.

Unfortunately I never really made it to the end of this book. I rarely make it 3/4 of the way through a book without finishing it but I found the whole Kleos scene bizarre and disconnected from the rest of the story and so the longer that went on the less engaged I was in the book and I ended up not caring how it ended. I think this is too bad because I liked the book up to that point.

I agree with Kim above. I felt the treatment at Kleos was really very unrealistic . I would certainly hope that we have a better way today to treatment the soldiers returning with PTD It is a real problem in today's world and I feel sure there are no "happy endings" just adjustments to be made on everyone's part.

After most people left Kleos is when I liked the book again. I agree the ending was hopeful, which I like. It didn't wrap it up so we don't know exactly what's going to happen to each of the main characters. But it seems like they want to work on being a better people.

I was glad that Becca was strong enough to go to Oregon on her scholarship and better herself. If her husband can get help perhaps they will get back together but she will take care of herself first. I was not surprised though because she had spent most of her life without the emotional support of her parents.
