In what ways was Becca influenced by each of her parents? Do you think she'll end up having a happier relationship with Ben than her parents had with each other? Do you think Ben and Becca will stay together?

Becca never really knew her parents. She was continually surprised by their actions. She didn't know her mother was at the wedding, she never knew the reasons her father left, never knew that he cared for her, or what demons he battled. I don't believe there was much influence from either one of them. Will she have a better relationship with Ben is very hard to say. She still has so much to learn about herself and about life. Ben still needs to be treated for and to face his PTSD. Can they do it together? I don't know.

It made me wonder if we can ever really know our mother and/or father as a person. While I do know about some of my parents' sacrifices for me and my sister, hearing my friend talk about their lives with their children makes me wonder if I have a clue.

I'd like to think that Becca and Ben have a chance, but in my heart of hearts I think it unlikely. They're both too young, without much shared history, so I really don't see any true bond between them at the moment.

I think Becca, for better or worse, became the strongest one in her family. Her father was inconsistent and volatile and her mother isolated herself. Because Becca is independent, she will keep in contact with them but not rely on them. I hope Ben is able to get the mental health he needs because he really loves her.

I think Becca learned that she didn't know her parents at all. They are really not connected. They don't understand or support each other. I think that going back to Ben right away was a mistake. He needs help, and Becca is repeating her pattern of hanging on with her parents with Ben. He needs to prove to her first that he's changed before she can trust him to not repeat his behavior. What are the consequences for his behavior? It was the same way she reacted to her parents, constantly excusing their behavior to her. I found that frustrating.
