How well do you think each of the main characters knows the others? Does their perception of their loved ones change over the course of the book, and if so, how? Did your reactions to the various characters or your opinion of them change by the end of the novel?

Not well. I think Becca's trip with her father was her final attempt to get to know him despite the failed attempts to do so in the past. Not sure the book was ever clear about whether or not Becca knew her mother, but her mother obviously knew Becca as she encouraged Becca in her quest to know her father.

My perception of Ben definitely changed. In the first part of the book he was not in contact with what was happening between himself and Becca. I was surprised that he really did love her and worked so hard to get her back.
King probably knew Becca better than he would admit to either Becca or her mother. It was hard for him to express his feelings.

I don't believe any of the characters knew each other well. They all seemed to know what they wanted, but not what the other wanted or needed. I don't believe they were much better off at the end of the story. Reno seemed to be the only one who had any idea of King's or Ben's problems.

I thought it was interesting how Becca came to appreciate Reno. I found my feelings toward him softened as the book went along as well.

I also liked the way Becca came to realize that she really didn't know much about her parents or her husband. It was a realistic coming-of-age moment (she was, after all, just college age in the book, so really still maturing; I know I wasn't anywhere near as worldly as I thought I was when I hit 21).

The characters had some shared experiences but didn't know each other well beyond that. Think King finally realized how much Becca loved him and he was able to give her some devotion back. Reno took Becca under his wing and protected her (like her father should have). Bull was still obnoxious. Jeanine still isolating.
