How is Soo-Ja’s relationship with her parents similar to that of Min and his parents?

Both sets of parents have much influence over Soo-Ja and Min. But the motivations are different for both sets which make the outcome of the way the children are different. Soo-Ja's parents are able to let her go and be who is needs to be even though it hurts them. Min's parents can't let go because they use Min as a possession rather than a cherished child.

Both are trying to please their parents but I think Soo-Ja's is motivated by true love for her parents and Mins by love yes- but tempered with fear of reprisals if he did not obey.

Min's parents are slimy, vile creatures. We know that because they pretended to be more wealthy before Min married Soo-Ja, so she wouldn't realize the potential he married her for money. All along they planned to squeeze more money out of her. Both respect their parents, but Soo-Ja does so more. Their relationship is built on love and trust but also respect for tradition. They did what they thought was right, based on the evidence they had, while Min's family knew outright Soo-Ja was much more wealthy. And they had Min act so compliant to her, so love-struck he'd do anything. This was all a trap set by his parents.

Soo-Ja enjoys a much better relationship with her parents than Min, who is bullied into doing what they tell him. As such he becomes a bully himself, feeling entitled to Soo-Ja and her family money. He has no power of his own and can't lash out at his parents, so he takes it all out on Soo-Ja. Very sad.

Both try to make their prents happy. Not sure if that ever works. Their parents have so much influence on the children. One set because they love their daughteralthough they don't alwyas show it. The other want their son to use the other's parents fo ensure that they succeed.
