Did you have any guesses as to who the father of Neva's baby was? Were you surprised when he was finally revealed?

I certainly was. The way the story was going, I assumed it was the doctor since he and Neva were both acting guilty about the baby. The actual father was such a minute character, I forgot all about him. It did make for an interesting story line though.

Not after the character of Mark was introduced, and his relationship with Neva was explained. He then became one of a list of (two) possibles - and seemed to be the one who would throw the biggest kink in the story line. So I picked him.

I was very surprised that she did name the biological father in the end and was disappointed at the same time. She was so strong in her beliefs and insisted she was raising this child on her own. I am not sure whether I feel admiration for including the biological father so he can be a part of the child's life, or I feel she gave in to the pressure of naming the father. A real parent is there for every moment in a child's life, as Patrick seemed more than willing to do. As an adoptive parent, I do not place as much importance on the biological aspect of parenthood as most people do.

I wasn't surprised because it made it easier for Patrick to be part of their lives. If the father had been his friend, Sean, then it would've been much more difficult. The friendship between the three of them would've been disrupted or shattered completely. In order for there to be an easy happy ending the father had to be Mark not Sean.

I wasn't surprised once the character of Mark was introduced into the story. If he weren't the father, there would have been no reason to have bothered to put him into the book. What did surprise me a little was that Neva revealed who the father was, after all her resolve to keep the secret. But it was only fair to let the father know that he has a daughter, and it didn't seem that Neva was going to ask anything from Mark. As Piperup said, it also made it easier for Patrick to be a part of Neva and Mietta's lives, since there would be no tension with Sean (though there might develop some with Mark, depending on how active a role he tries to take--but that's for another book).
