What did you think about Minny’s pie for Miss Hilly? Would you have gone as far as Minny did for revenge?

I too was trying to figure out what was in the pie, I thought it must have been Ex-lax or something similar. I never guessed what it really was! No, I'd never do that, but I thoroughly enjoyed what it turned out to be and it was THE perfect revenge for Miss Hilly.
It's always nice when an author manages to surprise you, especially when you think you've figured things out.

I wonder if Minny made up the story of the contents. Probably not, and if not, how much hatred did she have for Hilly? This reminds me of something that happened to me when I was seven: The "big" boys in the neighborhood told me to put my hand in a pile of dirt, and being the intimidated soul I was, I did it. The contents were the same as Minny's. That humiliation has been with me for all my life. I wonder how Hilly would have felt if she knew. Bet she'd have fought back!

Can you really cover up the taste with real pie ingredients? Anyway, I never thought about the possibility that Minny might have made it up. I think she didn't really put what she said she put because even if she didn't, the effect was still there: power over someone.

I just finished the book. I read as fast as I could to find out what the deal was with the pie. I can't really figure out what the "Terrible Awful" was. What was it? I feel like I missed the page(s) that detailed it. I read that she'd never tell anyone. I know Minny told Celia and Mrs. Walters knew. I want to know too.

Hi "Mothering" - even though this is a discussion forum intended for people who've read the book, I'm reluctant to specify the ingredients of the pie just in case there are people reading this who have not yet finished the book. But re-read pages 338-339 - and I think you'll find your answer.
I haven't got the book in front of me so I may have got the page numbers wrong - so if you don't find your answer there, reply back to the forum and I'll state in words of one syllable what was in the pie :)
