Alternating Viewpoints

What do you think about the alternating viewpoints between Emma and Leo? Did this help in understanding the story or cause confusion?

I thought this was an interesting way to develop the story. This is one current innovation that writers seem to be using - it works well here because of the plot twists and turns. Plus, I felt it gave the author a chance to develop her characters a little more deeply than a traditional method of telling the story might allow.

I'm not surprised anymore to see this device used by authors. Usually, as in this case, I find it gives more information and depth to the story and characters as you learn more about them. I didn't find it confusing at all in this story.

I enjoyed the alternating views because it showed when Leo first became suspicious about Emma's past, but it also showed when Emma suspected Leo had questions about her past. I also liked the glimpses into Emma's past that enlightened some parts of her story but didn't allow the reader to see the full picture.

Seems like everyone is bouncing around in either or both the timeline and the voice. Sometimes I can’t stand it and have to go back to figure who or when someone is. Rosie Walsh used this technique beautifully. Revealing stuff you needed to know without giving away anything that you didn’t need to know yet. It must have been a challenge to figure what to say ‘now’ or save til ‘later’. Well done!

I liked it as it allows the reader to know what is going on in the minds of each character.

I thought the alternating viewpoints worked well in this novel and kept my interest while creating suspense about future revelations.

I always like stories told through multiple narrators, I think it really fleshes everything out. It let us really walk with the characters and their motivations. I think it very much enhanced this story of secrets and their effect on both parties.

As a few others have noted, this technique is quite popular these days. I did get so absorbed while reading this book that I needed to go back and see whose chapter it was a few times, but I definitely enjoy the first person point of view.

I think the author made very good use of this device. I didn’t find it confusing at all. It added to the suspense.
