Well...Pho is one of my all time favorite dishes and the smells of it wafting in the market that day the Grandma had to leave her son behind really stuck with me.

Now, I would like to add the country to my bucket list. Before reading this book, I had no desire to visit. I would like to try pho and other dishes.

Being a vegetarian, I was enjoyed reading about the banana leaves and different rice dishes/rice balls and how they were prepared.

I wish there were more authentic Vietnamese restaurants around where I leave so I can inquire and taste more vegetarian food items. I lived in San Francisco from 1985-1988 and I remember going to a few Vietnamese restaurants and really enjoying the food.

Vietnam is the top destination on bucket list. Turning 80 next year I feel it now is only a pipe dream. I was fortunate enough to go to China in 1984 before it became too Americanized and I would have wished for the same for a visit to Vietnam.

I would like to visit Vietnam and Cambodia. I'm particularly interested in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Ankor Wat, etc.).

I live in the San Francisco area so great Vietnamese food is plentiful and affordable.

Yes, I would love to visit Vietnam. I enjoy pho, but haven't been too adventurous with other Vietnamese food. I think I would enjoy some time in the city and other time in the beautiful countryside.

interestingly i visited Cambodia and Thailand and japan but avoided Viet Nam. I just somehow couldn't adjust to the idea of being a tourist in a place that had occupied so much of my coming of age as a critical anti-war thinker and activist. The images of napalm and villages being destroyed by both sides and so much death just kept me away. Knowing people who fought and died there made it hard for me to go and stay in a nice hotel (there actually is a Hanoi Hilton- which was the sarcastic name of a terrible prison camp).

Having visited Viet Nam, I thought I tasted everything. But, these rice cakes sound delicious and I don't remember eating them.
