What do you think about Ransome? Do you agree with her actions? Do you think she could have done more to help Lila?

I think she was weak and pathetic. She had no backbone and no moral compass. Even as an old woman she could not do the right thing and help Lucy. She deserved no mercy in this life or whatever awaited her down the road.

Ransome was old and very afraid of losing her job and maybe her life as she knew Crete in all his evil ways. She was a coward and heartless woman not strong enough to give up everything for a stranger

She definitely could have done more but at great risk to her own safety. She was not a brave woman and unfortunately, there are many people who, when faced with her dilemma, would have done the same thing.

I had the feeling that Ransome might have been trafficked herself. Many of the comments are hard on her, but I think that she did what she could when she helped Carl take Lilia away from the garage. She certainly was someone who was beaten down by life and I felt for her. I do 't think that she could have done anymore than she did. She knew what she had done wasn't enough. The narrative about her making a quilt with something from each girl was heartbreaking.

I'm with Janen - Ransome was a 'sympathetic villain.' She likely was trafficked herself and was not capable of doing more than without someone helping her to see that she was no longer 'in danger' - which wasn't the case - anyone in Crete's life was in danger. He was an evil man.
Yes, she should have done more - a lot more. But I don't think she was capable.
