Why do you think Elsa relates to the Harry Potter books more than other novels? When you were growing up which books did you love and why?

I think the Harry Potter books provided the magic of overcoming negative adults. On page 37 the statement that "Miamas is wholly made of imagination" seems to support this idea. When I was little, I loved Nancy Drew books.

Elsa has been brought up to a large extent by Granny, and often lives with her in the magical kingdoms Granny created through fairy tales. Harry Potter, like Elsa, is an unusual child with magical powers. Granny instills in Elsa the belief that the two of them have superpowers, like Harry does, and Elsa also uncovers superpowers in others. (I think Granny secretly likes Harry Potter but keeps that little secret to herself.)
My childhood reading was extremely varied. I read the Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew, but also fiction that was far more serious. My literary childhood was not, for the most part, fairytale-like. Perhaps that's why I am known as the "book aunt" among my nieces and nephews! I love researching and selecting books for children.

I think Harry Potter presents a magical world in which most problems disappear. As a child I loved Nancy Drew for the mystery and excitement and also The Box Car Children for the same reasons.

Because Elsa's life is based on the magic Granny provides, and Harry Potter books are one of the magics she and Granny are so familiar with, it seems to be reasonable that Elsa might identify with the characters and their actions of the contemporary fairy tale of HP.
I liked the "Little House" series and could associate easily with Laura, et al. But I can't say why!

Elas was brought up on her Granny's fairy tales and Harry Potter was like a follow up to that in some ways. It was another form of escapism of not having friends. Growing up I read anything and everything I could get my hands on!
