Do you agree with the three individuals' perspectives on winning? Into which category do you feel you fall?

When deciding which game to play together, Arthur asks the women if they care whether or not they win. He asks if they lost, "Do you make a mental note to suggest a different game the next time, one you believe gives you a better chance of winning? Or do you think, ‘Never mind, it was fun'?" Do you agree with the three individuals' perspectives on winning? Into which category do you feel you fall?

RE: Do you agree with the three individuals' perspectives on winning? Into which category do you feel you fall?

At first I thought I was in the "It doesn't matter, it was fun" category, but in thinking about my actual behavior I'm not so sure. My husband and I do races; I run them and he walks them. When I've been injured I've done race walking too, but I've always reverted eventually to running. And now that there aren't any races being held due to the pandemic, I'm having trouble continuing to train. These things lead me to believe I'm a very goal-oriented person, and as such, I do think it matters to me if I "win." I have to admit I favor signing up for races that are reasonably small and that aware age group prizes because there's a chance I'll place if not win.

I definitely like to win, but if the game is enjoyable enough I'd still want to play again. In life, though, I try to keep in mind the adage "it's more important to be kind than to be right." Living up to that takes practice and intention though!

I'm definitely in the " doesn't matter if I win, it was fun"--IF it was fun! There is one game I refuse, now, to play with hubby and daughter--I cannot EVER figure out Clue and they always do but make me feel like an idiot because I can't get the knack of it. Losing doesn't bother me--their ridicule does and so no more Clue for me. I play other games with them and sometimes I win and sometimes I don't--but I never feel like I have a mental deficiency with those games--lol

RE: Do you agree with the three ...

I believe being competitive makes playing games more fun, but winning always means you are playing games or opponents below your skill level. That said I find it very uncomfortable and embarrassing during team play if one team members gets angry at their partner. Some couples have this problem and I just find things to keep me from having to play with that team.
