I think it was the only way she could see to protect the people she loved.

I agree with lynnw. I believe she saw that as her only option.

Hate to sound like a copy cat but I believe lynnw and laurap are right. What else was she going to do?

I think she and Lindie were children and could not possibly understand they were being played by Diane in such a diabolical way. After all, everything they had seen to that point had confirmed Diane's threat that no one would believe them. I think it was the only option they had.

I agree with the others, she didn't see, nor did she have an alternative

I agree with janeh. The girls had no idea what to do, looked at Diane as "the adult", even though she was manipulating them so that Diane would get what she wanted. The death of Clyde probably could have easily been explained to the police as self-defense. But Diane convinced them no one would believe them if she told them she had seen Lindie attack Clyde in cold blood. June felt she had no other option.

She had no real other choice, Diane was very crafty and knew everything (one thing that did not feel real to me - she knew too much, even with Clyde's help). In the long run it wouldn't have worked with with Jack anyways!

I think that June really could not see any any other choice, when you add the potential reaction from June's mother, and her lack of maturity to understand how to stand up to these women of influence over her.

I think that June realized the danger to Lindie if all the facts came out. I don't think it was murder, at the most it was manslaughter and Lindie was a child being threatened by an adult, but it probably would have gone badly for her.

Yes, what might have been the other consequences. I wonder who else was involved in staging the perfect accident.

Ditto re: several others above. I think, given the times and her situation, she felt it was her only option. She did what she had to do at that particular moment in time.
