Do you think Jack and June were truly in love?

In 1955, when June and Jack met, he was a world-class movie star in his thirties, and she was an eighteen-year-old. Do you think Jack and June were truly in love?

I suppose there can be love at first sight. When one is young, there is definitely lust at first sight which can seem like love. Either way, as they grew older, they may have remembered the thrill of being together and wondered what life would have been like together.

It was too early to tell if it was love. Certainly deep like. Jack's actions in the car did show that he was not a perfect person, but she was willing to leave the comfort of home. Love or adventure? Not sure...

Yes or beginning to fall in love.By the way, lust is a pretty cool part of love.

As a very young woman I think June was infatuated with the attention this famous movie star was giving her. They were not together enough to be truly in love. When they were older and both were free to travel together then perhaps they shared a loving relationship.

I think they were both looking for something different - Jack a way to get rid of his psycho "girlfriend" the studio had saddled him with, and for June, an alternative to the fiance that has been chosen for her. Both beautiful people, there was a real attraction, but it did not seem like they really knew one another enough to be in love.

There was definitely some real chemistry between them. With the age and lifestyle differences between them it probably would not have endured in the long run.

They may have thought they were in love. June seemed to be running away from her life as it was. After all;, Jack was handsome, a movie star and he was interested in her! It takes time to really fall in love and really know the person. Attraction was great between the two. I think she thought she could get away from her life as it was.

I didn't in the first part of the narrative -- even when she agreed to go with him, I think she was agreeing to the "lust" of the relationship ... as was he. I do think he was intrigued with her simple and honest ways, especially since he was dealing with a psycho with Diane. It was telling that they made the effort to get together later in life when both had clearer heads and time for each other. I believe they truly had an adult love for each other at the end of their lives. June was always the adult in the couple as she realized she didn't think she could live that life and remain true to herself. That, in large part, is why she kept Cassie from that
life.

They were "in lust" with each other in the beginning. Meeting each other as older adults, their lust could have grown to love. It is hard to picture their romance as older adults. Maybe it was just a romantic love in the end.

It may not have been love at the beginning, Jack was used to having girl friends when he wanted and June was excited to be noticed by a movie star. I believe, however, as they got to know each other over the years a real love developed, real love takes time and knowledge of each other

Perhaps. The plot seems similar to that in the movie La La Land - boy meets girl, timing off and life gets in the way. Would they have been together if circumstances had been different? It would not have been that fairy tale love they craved. Jack yearned for a relationship not affected by business. June understand that she couldn't accept a relationship that was different in public and in private. When older they re-created their dream love, helped by Lindsey who knew what they had sacrificed.

I think they did love each other. Both of them were willing to give up things to be with each other. But then after that incident with Lindie and Clyde, and Diane essentially blackmailing June, they weren't able to be together. I was glad June was able to introduce Jack to their son, and much later on they were able to reconnect and be together. Seems like love to me! :)

No, they were not in love - in lust is more like it. He was a older man who got whatever and whomever he wanted, and she naive sheltered "child". In my opinion he was a pedophile

It seemed to last over the ages so there must have been real feelings there. I think if Jack was truly in love at the beginning, he would not have gone back with Diane, however, June and Cassie were certainly not his mind over the years

There was some terrific chemistry between Jack and June, but I don't believe it was the kind of love to build a life on. It bothered me that they allowed themselves to be manipulated by Lindie, who was really more like a child playing games.

I really don't- I honestly couldn't get behind this love story bc I truly didn't believe it. I just felt like he was so untrustworthy, so able to change out one woman for another- his past and history with women didn't help him any, and June's innocence wasn't able to help her; she believed all he said, and ugh, I just couldn't get on board with them.

RE: Do you think Jack and June were truly in love?

I was really skeptical about Jacks motives. I am sure he had the hots for a young 18 year old girl. June probably thought she was in love with him. Actually I think she was the more mature acting of the two. I found it hard to believe he was in love with her. I did find it more believable that after she had his baby, he wanted to be in touch and know his son. I liked that they were travel companions in their later years.

RE: Do you think Jack and June were truly in love?

I think Jack probably had different girls in different times. I wondered about his age and actually how much older he was than June. June was unsure of her pending marriage to Artie and I assumed that he too was older. She was caught up in the fact that Jack would support her as an artist as well. Their later relationship is believable as they got together as mature adults able to enjoy travel and times together.
