In what ways is Lindie's love for June the driving force in June's life?

I agree that the character of Lindie seemed contrived. It felt that the author was trying to take a hot topic of today and include it into her historic fiction. This tactic seemed to make Lindy more one dimensional when she could have been much more.

Not a driving force, more of an influence. Life gives several 'forks' and how one responds to them affects the life they look back on. Every friend a person has leaves a spot in the heart; that doesn't make it a driving force.

I flet like it was more of a driving force for Lindie than for June. Lindie's love for June caused her to behave in waves that impacted June - as in withholding Artie's letter and setting up contacts with Jack. It's true June responded, but I don't think of her as being driven by Lindie as much as by Jack.

I too think of it as vice versa. It did offer a way for Lindie to encourage June and Jack. Why did she encourage this relationship between a man and a woman. Was she thinking that having June gone with a Jack would have changed her? As it turned out her father and herself recognized her own needs which led to a good life for her. But then, why did she return?

Lindie loved June unconditionally. Whether she had sexual feelings for June as a teenager is not really relevant, in my opinion, to the deeper friendship they shared later in life. We really only saw their relationhip through an immature Lindie's eyes and only saw June through the Lindie filter. There were references to letters and to June's devotion to Cassie and Cassie's father, but really, I did not feel I knew who June was in this story. To me, was the story of Lindie, Cassie and the soul of a home. What I saw represented between Lindie and June throughout was a love story of a friendship with sometimes give, many times take and consistent support and love.
