Most of us can understand Gates’ statement that the “most transforming force of education for women and girls is challenging the self-image of the girl who goes to school.” Please share stories about a teacher who has impacted you.

Sister Norbert, a Catholic nun, was my sixth grade teacher and she challenged me to go above and beyond, taught me that I could be and do whatever I wanted to, and to always be true to my word. She also inspired a love of poetry that I still have today. She had a sense of humor, a love for all children and enjoyed WWE wrestling. Thanks for the memory!

The teacher, I believe who is most impactful, is not the one who answers our questions. It is the one who teaches us to ask questions and helps us to find our own answers. It is the teacher who teaches "out of the box" and stimulates our creativity and inspires us to realize our potential.

As a retired teacher, it's always wonderful to hear how teachers can change lives. My 5th grade teacher is one of those people. Her classroom was always inviting and she encouraged group work long before it was popular. She taught us French in our time away from the required lessons and the things we learned about being a good person are the lessons I remember. "Always leave a place better than you found it."
