How are Miranda and Annie similar and different? How has their relationship with each other shaped them and their view of the world? Is this a typical sister-sister relationship in your opinion?

Annie and Miranda are very different and it is evident in how they reacted to the problems in this book. Annie is very pragmatic, she moved to the cottage to help and oversee their finances and was the only one concerned about their financial predicament. Miranda seemed to give up after the loss of her business and the resulting scandal. Once she met Henry her nurturing side came out and the time she spent seemed to help heal her.

Most sisters I know are very different including myself and my three sisters. I think sometimes that being different is necessary for survival in a family. So the way that Annie and Miranda are made the story very real for me. But what I love about my sisters is that, even though we are different, we complement each other in many ways and we are mostly tolerate of our differences. Sometimes the differences are annoying. In those ways, Annie and Miranda's relationship is very typical.

They seem to be typical sisters. I am very different from my sisters. While Miranda seems flighty and Annie very grounded and unemotional, they seem to come together in a crisis regarding their mother.
