In describing her own journey with her Catholic faith, Melinda explains the importance of acting according to one's conscience—that "Faith in action to me means going to the margins of society, seeking out those who are isolated, and bringing them back in." Does this resonate with your experience with religion or spirituality?

Yes. Faith in action is service to the world community, and particularly service to those that need it most of all. A great message in a society filled with insular pleasures.

Yes. Way too many people think of themselves as "religious" or "spiritual" but don't even try to reach out to others.

I belonged to a wonderful church for a number of years. Much of the congregation was community and mission oriented. Unfortunately I think we missed a point with helping. It is a wealhy church in a wealthy white neighborhood and many really didn't relate to the people they wanted to help. We seemed to think we knew what peolple needed rather than asking what they needed and how we could provide it. Just before I left a new younger population joined our church and I think they will turn things around and are much more forward thinking. They are down to earth, real and really committed to serving and going to where people need to be served.

Yes, as a person of faith in an active faith community, this does resonate with me, except perhaps for the "bring them back in" part. In my faith community, we go to the margins, seek those who are isolated or in need, but not necessarily with the intent to "bring them back in." Rather we seek to meet their needs, which in the current environment is to a large extent food insecurity, but there are no strings attached to someone's accepting food.
