Documentaries based on books & vice versa -

From the dates, it seems to me that the Tomlinson Hill documentary was created first (2012) and that the book followed after (2014) - although the author must have been researching both simultaneously. If you saw the documentary, how did it compare to the book? If you didn't see it, are you planning to now that you've read the book? What do you think of having books based on documentaries & vice versa - do they compliment each other, or is one always better?

I'm actually very curious about the documentary. I'll probably try to find a copy on Netflix.

I don't intend to spend anymore of my time on Tomlinson Hill in any format.

I' m sorry you feel that way Retired Reader....this book has a lot of thought provoking material. I'd like to see the documentary to compare it to the book. Why do you feel this way...were you bored or did you find the information uncomfortable?

Well now, I partially agree with Retired Reader. It seems to me there are a majority who didn't care for the book for many reasons. Therefore why should one subject him/herself to further punishment? That does not mean that the information was uncomfortable; more like a rehash of history and certainly I believe the book was misrepresented. In saying that, if PBS chose to show this documentary I would probably watch it. But I'm not going to search it out.

I am not interested in any further reading of this book (with or without seeing the documentary) but I would probably take a chance on a novel written by someone else picking up some part of the theme of this book. Maybe this author just tried to take too big a bite at one time - on the other hand maybe it is my fault because I have become too partial to novels and have become disinterested in non-fiction.

I personally have no further interest in Tomlinson Hill. I am not uncomfortable with the subject matter, but I read for pleasure and this wasn't high on my list of "must" reads.
