Discuss the importance and consequences of Frankie Tender not asking Bert her name. If he had asked her name, would the evening have ended differently or not?

When Bert was almost compromised, her greatest sorrow was that Frankie Tender never asked her name. Discuss the importance of that missing question and the consequence for Frankie Tender. If he had asked her name, would the evening have ended differently or not?

Frankie Tender was anything but. Definitely a creeper. He took advantage of Bert and only wanted one thing. So sad. Young men need to be taught the value of young women.

The evening would have ended similarly whether Frankie asked Bert’s name or not. He was a cad and not asking her name was only one more indication of the lack of respect he had for her as a young woman. However, what might have been different was how Bert felt about herself, even with a similar outcome, Bert might have felt less de-valued and naive.

By not asking Bert her name Frankie made it obvious that Bert could be “ anyone” . He made it so blatant that she meant nothing to him, she couldn’t even fool herself with her fantasy of love and romance. I don’t think it would have really ended differently. Frankie was rough and cruel and Bert realized this experience wasn’t going to be what she imagined. Even had Frankie used her name I think Bert would have protested. Dare I say Frankie got what he deserved. I think Bert’s shame and embarrassment would only have been worse had the interlude continued uninterrupted.

I initially felt she was turned off by Frankie’s aggression but near the end of the book she said she would’ve succumbed to him if he had just asked her name. It was then she realized he was just looking for sex and she just happened to be there.

The anonymity provided allowed Frankie to see her as a 'thing' and not another human being with the right of choice. I am not convinced that knowing her name would have changed his behavior but it might have made him less comfortable with his actions.

RE: Discuss the importance and ...

Bert was described as a pretty young lady. Frankie set his sights on her from the moment he started performing with his band. He wanted Bert as his conquest for the night. Bert being young and naive liked his attention on her during the performance and was at the age of fantasizing being with a boy. Frankie never cared to know her name as he would be gone before the night ended (or so he thought). Knowing her name would not have changed the outcome of the story but could have greatly changed Bert had circumstances been different for Frankie. What a great lesson for Bert and thankfully she had the right guidance from that moment on.

I don't think that knowing her name would have made a difference to Frankie, although maybe it would have made a difference to Bert if he had asked - it may not have changed what happened at the end, but maybe Bert would have felt a little bit more of a person than a thing

Agree that it would not have mattered to Frankie knowing Bert's name. She would have been just another notch on his belt had she succumbed. I applauded her.

I think if he'd asked her name she would have felt like he saw her as a person. I think she would have had sex with him and regretted it bitterly.

If scumbag Frankie had been as suave as he thought he was, he would have asked Bert what her name was. Even Bert admitted that she would have given herself to him. I'm glad it worked out the way it did - in every aspect of Frankie's part of the story.

Frankie Tender, even if asking Bert’s name, was the same person he’d always been—a molester— someone who would take advantage of any girl, name or not. Luckily the methods Frankie used were negative enough that Bert wasn’t able to respond to his advances.
