What do you think about allowing women in the ring? Are you aware of any contemporary female pugilists?

The Marquess of Queensbury rules for boxing, which were published in 1867, prohibited women's boxing. This rule was rescinded in the late 20th century, with women's boxing appearing as an event for the first time in the 2012 Summer Olympics. What do you think about allowing women in the ring? Are you aware of any contemporary female pugilists? 

Women's boxing has been in the news lately. Seems that women are engaged in boxing as self defense. Also boxing is now being taught to Alzheimer's patients. If you watch "Dancing With The Stars" on TV this season a prominent woman boxer, Paige, is featured as one of the "stars" dancing with a pro. She is beautiful with a fabulous body in fine condition. She is also a great dancer. Her conditioning has made her limber, fast, graceful and tireless. Interested to know how she has protected her face and beautiful teeth! Ali's daughter was also on this show a few seasons. Like Paige, she is gorgeous and spry. I admire these women for their talent, fun personalities and perseverance.

I think if women want to do it, why not?

I only know personally of one female boxer. A woman who is amazing and strong, inside and out. She is beautiful and in amazing shape. She was a childhood friend of the family, though, so I haven't seen her in person for more than 20 years!

The only other thing I know about female boxers at all was from the movie Million Dollar Baby, from 2004 with Hilary Swank, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman.

Why shouldn't women be allowed into the boxing ring? Boxing is a sport like many other sports that were traditionally a man's sport. In our day and age women are breaking these sexist barriers as I feel should happen. Certainly I don't feel that women should box against men the way Ruth did. However, if women want to "duke it out" between each other for fun or for profit, why not?
Yes, female boxers are sometimes promoted or at least reported about in the sports pages or in sports magazines. Most Americans who read the news should be aware of female boxers.

I cannot see myself doing this, however, if this is of interest to a woman, I see no reason why see should not box. Women are involved in most sports now. Wasn't one of Ali's daughters a boxer. Also, there was the movie with Clint Eastwood about a woman boxer

If a woman wants to box, she should be able to. Most women I know laugh about women being considered the weaker sex- - especially for older generations. Who ends up taking care of old men? The old ladies!

Many women boxers have made a name for themselves as serious boxers. If you've had an opportunity to watch Ali's daughter fight, you would see one of the finest. She has skills & heart.

I'm not a fan of boxing for any gender or age. I'm aware that there are female boxers (and various martial art fighters), but I do not follow those types of sports.

It's funny, but like others have mentioned it's Dancing With the Stars that really made me aware of women boxers. Laila Ali and Paige VanSant - both so graceful and beautiful! They've really surprised me.

I am all for equal rights. If a woman wants to fight, she should be able to fight. I'm not so sure Ruth actually wanted to start boxing, but I feel like it gave her self-worth in the convent. If she wasn't a fighter, she would have absolutely no respect. In her world, she either needed to be beautiful or have strength. When she fought Dora for the first time, she proved how strong she was.

I don't really follow contemporary boxing, but I did watch the last Ronda Rousey fight in November 2015. Talk about having something to prove! I'm not a big fan of watching fights, but I happened to see this one while I was out with a friend. It was super difficult for me to watch. It's amazing to me how when she lost she was feeling so depressed that she said she thought about killing herself. It's crazy how with this sport, you are either number one or nobody. I mean does anyone even remember the name of the chick who defeated Ronda back in November? Holly something? Yeah. The fans pick their favorite and go with it and when they lose they are nothing. Hopefully Ronda can make a comeback to prove herself again, but being a woman that's what she has to do: prove herself. If it were a man who had lost when being favored so highly, he would not have fallen as far as Ronda Rousey did.

As long as the participants are willing then I have no objections - good for them! I have no interest in a y fighting events, but I think women should be able to do anything they are capable of doing - as long as they understand the risks.

Women should be allowed in the ring just as men are. Laila Ali is probably the most famous female boxer I am aware of, following in her Dad's footsteps. As the others have mentioned, Dancing with the Stars is featuring one this season.

Even though I don't care for the sport I do think women should be allowed to participate.

I do not like boxing or wrestling. If there are women would like these types of sports and want to participate in them, I think they have the same right as men in any sport. I do not know of any contemporary female pugilists.

I have no promlem with women in the ring. There are women fighters, including the daughter,of Mohammed
Ali. Look at the,physical roles that women play in TV and movies. Also, women of the same historical period had the problem and the strength to work as pioneers, homesteaders and even home owners. Charlotte did not have this choice.
