Which of the characters are ultimately successful in gaining personal freedom?

All of the characters are striving for personal freedom. Which of them do you think are ultimately successful?

Ruth never felt attractive or lovable before Tom entered her life. She ends up enjoying her life with a man she loves and teaching her craft to others. She accepts her lot in life for what it is and her strong will and soft heart ultimately shine through.

Charlotte is freed of the restrictions placed on a woman in her position and now feels strong and independent. She is now able to truly be the intelligent and unrestricted woman that she is meant to be.

George is such an opportunistic person that it finally becomes his undoing. He is ultimately trapped.

Charlotte and Ruth both find their paths to freedom. However, Ruth shall have to bear a certain amount of pain for the remainder of her life.

Charlotte, Ruth, Tom and Dory - all of the characters who were in some type of bondage situation at the beginning of the story. They all gain their freedom through force, which is interesting because their weakness was so evident early on - even Tom.

Not George since he will be beholden to Perry now.

Ruth and Tom move up quite a bit in society from prostitute's daughter and miner's son/dock worker. Their business doesn't make them rich, but they are certainly not selling themselves in the same way as they anticipated/started.

Charlotte doesn't gain freedom, but does get power within the marriage.

I found Charlotte the most successful in gaining personal freedom. She had the most to achieve!

I agree most with andreab. I feel Ruth and Tom have gained the most, with having a home, a business and Dory. This is something that they would not have had without the boxing. Also, Charlotte has gained great freedom with the return of her home and some power over her husband. She is happy with Arthur and new baby coming. She has plans for the future

I felt that Charlotte gained the most. Ruth was a close second in my mind.
