How does Tom's history converge with the events leading up to the assassination of JFK? Does Tom know what's happening around him during this time?

RE: How does Tom's history converge with the events leading up to the assassination of JFK?

As a medical student working in the prison he must interact with men who he would not normally ever come in contact with. From this experience and from those he meets come unexpected gifts as thanks. As soon as this happens Tom is forever tied to the mafia and then to the Eagles. The most significant thing is the medical excuse he writes for Frank which coincides with the assassination of JFK. Even though it was done unwittingly, it will tie him to the assassination and become a major piece of evidence against him.

Tom's exps in Korea. He doesn't seem to be a politically driven person but he was a moral person.......or at least tried to be. His knowledge of the assassination of JFK caused him a great deal of grief and guilt for the rest of his life.
