Absolutely. This was more than Nadim being evil. This was the culmination of all the tragedy and strife Nuri had experienced in one act of terror.

I felt that his participation was sad, but understandable. There is only so much cruelty and tragedy a human can endure without fighting back. But what it did to his soul was heartbreaking. He got caught up in the mob reaction and delivered the final blow in a state of anger and retaliation. But that act weighed so heavily on him that it felt like the final straw in a whole pack of them. I understood why he reacted as he did, but wished that he had walked away.

I wouldn't say it was a justified act although Nadim certainly needed to be stopped. I think Nuri greatly regretted his part in Nadim's death but lost all control when he found himself in the middle of a violent incident . I believe his response had much more to do with all that he had been through during the Syrian war, the loss of his son and his livelihood as well as the absence of his friend Mustafa and the illness his wife was suffering.

I was sad that he participated in that killing only because I knew he was going to have regrets later for being involved. I think he was justified .. if anyone is ever justified for killing another person... in his actions and joining the group to rid them all of the evil, but I know in the end, he would wish he he walked away.

I was surprised but understood. I didn't think it fit who he was as a man, but I could see how he couldn't walk away from it. It was the last straw for him and his anger at his whole situation just came to a head when he saw what Nadim was doing and how he had threatened him. It was also a matter of survival.

It was understandable because Nuri was in survival mode and Nadim was evil. I don't condone murder, but understand how someone can justify it.

I don't think Nuri really knew what he was doing when he participated in the beating. He was urged on by the men who had found Nadim and at that point I feel that Nuri was so overwhelmed with grief, anger and facing the unknowable future that he just reacted rather than thinking it through.

RE: Nuri helps kill Nadim at the refugee camp. How did you feel about his actions? Did you think he was justified?

The killing of Nadim was so drastically opposite the person he was- -before the war, before the loss of his loss, before all the horrible things he saw on his journey to England. Nuri was a gentle soul, a nurturer. We saw this side of him when he recalled his job as a beekeeper, as he cared for Afra by dressing her and bringing her treasures, and the way he rescued the wingless bee at the B and B.

Without a doubt, Nadim needed to be stopped. His behavior was criminal and horrific! He had tried to kill Nuri earlier by cutting him with a knife because Nuri knew what he was up to. I think the act of killing Nadim was a way of taking back power in a situation where Nuri had absolutely none. But, I agree with carolf. His behavior in this instance was a reaction to everything he was experiencing and trying to suppress. He stepped outside himself and his true character.
