RE: What future do you envision for Nuri and Afra?

I think having Mustafi arrive ahead of them in England and beginning to explore British bees and building an apiary, he will be in good hands with a doable future. This will help Afra as well as she finds friendship and support in both Mustafe and his wife. Each day she will hopefully see a little more!

RE: What future do you envision for Nuri and Afra?

Nuri, like the new hives his cousin has begun to raise, will slowly rebuild his life, piece by piece. Loss and tragedy doesn't disappear, but it can be overcome. Each step in the story showed how resilient Nuri and Afra were. Nuri came to terms with his son's absence and the imaginary nature of Mohamed's existence and Afra began to see the world again. I think they will cling to each other as they heal and overcome their hardships together.

RE: What future do you envision for Nuri and Afra?

I think Nuri and Afra will rebuild in a geographically new world. Like the apiary, they will start over one hive at a time. I think they will become emotionally closer as Afra's sight is restored. I believe they will nurture both themselves and others with a wisdom gained through hardships and pain. Hopefully the beauty of the bees and the hives will connect them to the natural world and give them hope. It would be wonderful if they could adopt an orphan of a conflict and bring some healing to themselves and a new life.

Like the three preceding commenters, I think Nuri and Afra will reconnect with Mustafa and his wife, learn to cope with their grief, and rebuild their lives and their relationship with one another in a new location. They've come a long way already, and their resilience shows through in spite of the tragedy their have endured.

I am hopeful for them, but I fear their struggle are not over. It takes a lot (I assume) to get over the loss of a son, a country, a culture. I want them to thrive, but settling into a new life could be very challenging.

I am very hopeful that they will be able to build a life together with Mustafas help and that they can finally live in peace and be happy tending to their bees! As life gets less stressful, I would hope that Afra might get her vision back and that perhaps they might even have another child. I hope for some happiness for them .

They will always remember and talk about their life in Aleppo. The bee hives, their son Sami and all the small things that will remind of them of their past life. Their new life will be much different but I think the feeling of finally being safe will let them embrace the newness.

I certainly hope they will have a good future, but the loss of their son, their country and the life they knew will be hard to overcome. Mustafi, his family and the people he has met in England will be of great help and of course, the bees.

RE: What future do you envision for Nuri and Afra?

I like the hopefulness of each of the previous responders. Any of us who has endured tragedy knows that there is no direction to go except forward in this life. By reconnecting Nuri and Mustafa and showing that Afra may be recovering her vision, the author gives our hearts a lift. Perhaps Nuri and Afra will find happiness and renewal in their new home.
Knowing what we know about the resentment toward immigrants in many countries which receive them, however, I don't think that the future for them will be without new challenges including racism, cultural displacement, and sadness. We can only wish these characters who have touched our hearts, the best possible outcomes.
