Has Rachel parented differently as a result of the way she was raised?

How has Rachel's relationship with her mother impacted her relationship with her daughter? Has Rachel parented differently as a result of the way she was raised?

Rachel tries to be an involved, loving and supportive parent. As the teen years approach and her children pull away she struggles but learns that she has to let them make some mistakes and to be there when they fall to help them pick-up the pieces.

I think she has, but she didn't truly try to do things differently until she found out her mother's history, after which she stopped keeping secrets from her children about her own childhood and adolescence.

I agree with sallyh and ruthlea. I think Rachel thought she was parenting differently--keeping secrets to protect her kids--but she only realized after learning about her mom that secrets were part of her childhood too. Once she realized this, she changes and begins to parent differently.

Yes, she did parent differently but only after she was aware of the secrets not shared with her and her sister.
It's never too late to make amends. If only her father had thought that way he would not have been such
a lonely old man.

Definitely, She made a conscious decision to not be the kind of parent that she had. Even when things seemed a little difficult with her kids she did her best to help and support them and always love them.

Yeah, I could never imagine Rachel telling one of her children they couldn't come home, regardless of any kind of mistakes they were making. In fact, I think she could see that her children were about to make some of the same errors she had, but rather than ostracize them or push them away through criticism, she showed them love and honesty, and realized she needed to let them make their own mistakes.

I agree with Ruthiea in that Rachel was an involved and supportive parent. As her children became older perhaps she over-parented.

I feel Rachel tried very hard to be the best parent in the world and put her family first in all her actions. She did keep her secrets thinking it was the right thing but ultimately realized she needed to be truthful with her kids and they were old enough to learn her story by then. I think her heart was always in the right place with regard to her children.

Rachel is a loving and supportive mother, deeply involved in their lives. Her father was cold, withheld praise and love, her mother quiet, passive. She wanted better for her own children than she had with her parents.

I agree with judithj. Rachel is very loving and supportive and actually holds her tongue in places (such as Quinn wanting to get married so young). She never would have abandoned her children, throwing them out of the house as her father did to her. She did a 180 and parented differently because (mainly) of her father.

I think that Rachel did parent differently from her parents. I think she was a loving parent, who after the secrets were discovered, realized that children must know the truth. I think she wanted to giv ne'er children "roots and wings".

Rachel parented with love and understanding. Firm. No way near the dysfunctionality she suffered from Killian, thank goodness.

Very much so. She gave her kids love and let them know they were safe in there home. They weren't going to be thrown out under her watch. She did not go down the evasive docile path of her Mother or the dictatorship of her Father.
