I think that Rachel and Drew learned that they each led different lives and just because of that they shouldn't judge each other. They are family and they should accept each other as they are.

RE: What do you think Rachel and Drew learned from each other?

I think they first had to learn to really know each other as they had spent little to no time together as adults because Rachel had been kicked out so young. Since their life styles were so different it was first about getting past that, then working around the differences in their relationship with their father and trying to do the right thing for their mother. Rachel was rather superior and into being the perfect mom and wife and Drew was still trying to figure who or what she really wanted to be so they were really coming from very different places but the unanswered questions about their mom and her continued good care definitely brought them together. I think then they were able to learn to accept, care about and respect each other.

To appreciate each other's lifestyle. I also believe that Rachel had the advantage - since she was kicked out so young, she was not under the influence of that dreadful father as long as Drew was. On the outside Rachel gives the appearance of being a superior and perfect mother and mate, leaving Drew to dwell on who was she and how was she going to be successful.

tswaine reflected my feeling on sibling relationships. Often times we are harder and less forgiving than we are with our friends.

I also think that the two sisters spent the time between Rachel's leaving and the book's opening harboring a lot of resentment toward each other. I think each sister thought the other had it better; Rachel saw the support (financial and otherwise) her father gave Drew, while Drew thought Rachel had the better time of it. That level of resentment can be really difficult to overcome. I thought the fight between the two was particularly painful and realistic.

I think, though, that they did end up learning from each other. Rachel learned to let go a bit, and Drew learned how to move forward.

I think Rachel and Drew finally learned to stop jumping to conclusions and to really listen to what the other is saying. To let go of the childhood hurts and grudges.

I agree with reene. Learned not to jump to conclusions and make decisions without knowing all the facts.

I think Kimk nailed Rachel really resented he financial dependence Drew had with their father. She had tried to protect her younger sister in the early years, only to see her still tied to "the enemy." They finally learn to accept each other's strengths…and to encourage the emergence of a new relationship with each other. They also learn their mother, too, had strengths they never knew.

I believe that Rachel and Drew forgot what the bond of sisterhood meant. Drew was jealous of Rachel's stable family life, while Rachel saw her father help Drew with financial assistance and resented that. Often
sisters vie for attention and their need for each other are forgotten for all the wrong reasons.

RE: What do you think Rachel and Drew learned from each other?

I think they learned a lesson their mother was trying to teach them about the closeness of sisters. Rachel and Drew had a lot of built of resentment from their childhood. I feel Drew felt abandoned by Rachel. And Rachel felt that Drew was too close to the "enemy". They eventually learned to accept one and other's differences and move on. They got to see there Mother in a whole new light and when a secret was let out it brought them all closer together.
