Did you sympathize more with Rachel or with Drew?

Did you sympathize more with Rachel or with Drew? Do you think one had a more difficult time growing up in the Snow household?

I sympathized with both of them to an extent.

I think that you had to have feelings for both of them. The author wrote in such a way you could understand both of them.

I sympathize a tiny bit more with Rachel, as I feel her suffering an injury and then her father turning away from her and her subsequent downfall was more drastic than Drew's storyline. Both sister's had a pretty lousy set of parents and because Rachel was kicked out of the house they didn't even have each other to rely on.

I sympathized with both of them at different times throughout the book. Like swchis39 said, the author did an excellent job developing both characters so you could understand them.

Initially my sympathies were totally with Rachel, but bit by bit I warmed to Drew's problems, and felt for both of them equally.

I sympathize with both and could understand the choices they made under the circumstances but at times I had little patience with either one of them!

I felt for both Drew and Rachel. Having her father turn away from her just because she had an injury was tough for Rachel and it was equally tough for Drew to stay living in the house when Rachel left.

I agree with others who said that the author developed the characters and explained the history in such a way that the reader would sympathize with both Rachel and Drew. They were very different and the family's dysfunction affected them in different ways, but it seemed to affect them to a similar degree. I also agree with rebajane that there were times when I didn't feel much sympathy for either of them.

Initially I was more sympathetic to Drew as her situation seemed a bit more dire than Rachel's. And Rachel's super mom thing was a bit much though understandable after what her father had done to her. As the story progressed it became obvious that both of them had issues and when they sort of joined up in trying to figure out their mom's story and deal with their dad I did feel for both of them.

I'm afraid I'm all in the Rachel camp (probably because I'm the elder sister in my own family). I felt like Drew had it all, had talent, options, the support of her well-off father, and just needed to doing some growing up.

I'm slightly more sympathetic toward Rachel. However, I agree with previous comments that I wasn't really in sympathy with either sister.

Hard to say...as characters, I liked Drew more, I found Rachel to be annoying and understandably, given her childhood, controlling.

I felt for both girls equally. Each suffered in her own way from the ugliness of the father and the seeming uncaring of the mother. They each tried to find their own way, rebellion or music, sometimes each other but with no understanding of how to connect.

Initially, I felt sympathy with Rachel because her father disowned her as a teen, but I think Drew actually suffered more. Rachel became stronger because of that and had the love of her husband, and children. Drew appeared to be just coasting along with her life, with little confidence in her abilities.

I don't think I sympathized with either one. Rachel was just a kid and put in a very bad situation. She chose to make a better life for herself and managed to have a great family in spite of what her father did to her. Drew chose to let life happen to her until she finally met someone worth working for and turning away from her father. He is a truly evil man.

I agree that Killian was an evil man. He truly seemed to have no conscience. But I do think that Hikari could have made some better attempts at mothering the girls.

I think both, perhaps more with Rachael because of the estrangement with her father. For Drew it probably wasn't easy being the "remaining daughter" with all that entails

I liked both Drew and Rachel. They were both very different and so they tried to figure things out in their own way. They had no guidance. They had to deal with a terrible father and their mother was afraid to asset herself on her behalf or on theirs.

Rachel was very uptight. I would have liked to have known more about her life after being banished from her home at such a young age. The fact that she got pregnant at such a young age and wound up married in a stable home is remarkable but how did she get there. In some ways Drew was more sympathetic than rachel but in reality she was a train wreck

Rachel because of the trauma of being thrown out of the home at such a young age.
