I think it made them start to re-examine their relationship and see that they are stronger together and that they need each other in their lives despite their differences. I think Tomoe's story brought out the "warrior" in them and taught them to fight for what the wanted/needed and also to learn when NOT to fight.

I think that it made them realize that Hikari really wanted them to be sisters who cared for each other and made their way through life and all the things it throws you with unconditional support for each other. They needed to learn the value of having that person at their back through thick and thin which was something that their mom did not have.

I think Drew used Tomoe as an example of strength, while Rachel picked up on the fact that it was OK to be weak sometimes. They both discovered a part of themselves that needed to be developed and they both became stronger, more well-rounded women as a result.

I think Tomoe"s story was a message from the mother, when she could no longer speak. It let the sisters know they needed each other

I so disliked having Tomoe's story interrupt the modern story that I don't feel it had any impact on the sisters.

I think Tomoe's story helped the sisters understand that they could live life more fully if they could admit they needed each other.

Tomoe's lifestyle was one of strength and courage. Her life's disappointments had to be taken in stride and set aside as she realized that the lives of all were more important than she was. The sisters learned from Tomoe's story that together they were stronger and because of that , individually , each had more courage.

I think Tomoe and Kamabuki's relationship showed them how important it was for them to be a team and help each other. Be there for there mother and encourage each other.

I agree with the comments that Tomoes's story enhanced the need for the sisters to help one another
